Strapping is the process of securing or bundling items with a band so that they can be transported safely. Strapping is used to secure items, like boxes and crates, to pallets. In addition, strapping is also used to bundle heavy items such as wood, pipes and concrete blocks. Strapping can also be used as a way to seal boxes. There are a number of different types of strapping, each with its own benefits.

Vertical or horizontal strapping

Strapping is carried out horizontally or vertically, depending on the use. With horizontal strapping, the strapping band is placed across the width. With vertical strapping, the strapping band is placed across the length. Horizontal or vertical strapping can be accomplished with automatic or semi-automatic strapping machines. In addition to the type of machine and the direction of strapping, there is also a difference in the type of strapping band.

Types of strapping band

There are a number of different types of strapping band available on the market, and the type that is most suitable depends on what it is being used for and the weight of the load being strapped. At Steenks Service, we have 2 types of strapping band that are universally suitable – polypropylene and polyester.

Polyester strapping band

Polyester strapping band (PET band) is a thermoplastic polyester material that is used to strap heavy goods. PET band is characterised by its strength and elasticity, without any loss of tension. Polyester strapping band is used for a number of applications as an alternative to steel band.

Polypropylene strapping band

Polypropylene strapping band (PP band) is a thermoplastic polymer that is used to strap lightweight to medium-weight goods. PP band is elastic, has low tension loss and good tensile strength. Consequently, it is the most commonly used band for strapping. PP band is also cheaper than PET band.

Applicability of strapping band

Both PET and PP band are plastic materials and can be recycled. For your strapping machine to operate correctly, it’s important that you choose the right quality of strapping band. Poor quality strapping band can have a negative impact on the performance of your strapping machine, as the binding head will become dirty, degrading your machine over time. In addition, low-quality strapping band can also cause the band to tear or deform, which will prevent it from being pulled tightly. At Steenks Service, we only supply high-quality strapping band, allowing you to strap without encountering problems.
